Day 7 - Tending the Inner Fire

Today’s reading can be found on page 29, Day 7 – Tending the Inner Fire

Listen to me in silence.

Isaiah 41:1

Thank you to those who have shared this past week.  If you haven’t yet, we would love to hear from you.

  1. I like to remember the rest of the carol where we "prepare him room". "And Heaven and Nature Sing, and Heaven and Nature Sing, and ...."! Thinking about Heaven and Nature singing brings joy to my heart. One can hear nature when all is supposedly "quiet". In my back yard, I cannot hear the traffic noise from the interstate. I just hear my glorious windchimes being moved by the breezes from nature. Peace on Earth.

  2. I really enjoyed the painting today - the energy, the hustle and bustle of the big city, the people coming and going, luggage dropped at the curb...its a positive energy!
I suppose it reflects my life in a way. Always something going on, big plans and fast action, lots to do and to be done. But that has to be balanced with times of silence. Otherwise it wears me down, or I get lost in the activity and forget the point.
And I'm finding myself a bit off-balance - more activity than silence. I'm glad today's reading reminded me of the importance of waiting, and "Listening...in silence."

  3. One of the things I like about snow here in Alabama is that the city shuts down. No interstate or traffic noise. And when the power goes out, all the electrical noises stop. It is TOTALLY quiet. We don't realize how much noise is around us. It is hard to listen to what God is telling us when we have so much noise and so many distractions. I love today's prayer - God I ask you to quiet the noise in my life, both that which bombards me and that which comes from within. Teach me to embrace the silence I so often avoid by hurrying to do the next thing....

  4. When the power goes out it really is quiet - except for the neighbor's generators...UGH!
